If I don’t have these skills, am I doomed to a life of chaos?

No!  The reality is that not everyone’s brain works quite the same way.  And, actually, I’m here to tell you that’s a GOOD thing!  It is part of what gives our society the rich diversity that it has and gives us some people who tend to be wildly creative and spontaneous while others are fairly structured and logical.  All such characteristics are simultaneously strengths and weaknesses.  Some of our most famous inventors, scientists, and artists were terrible with executive functioning skills but their more free-flowing mind allowed them to create wonderful things that no one had previously imagined.

The challenge that each of us faces is identifying where our particular thinking style might jam us up and whether there are things we can learn to accommodate our natural way of thinking so that we can still meet the expectations we have of ourselves for being responsible human beings.
